Founder-review draft

Clear terms for a quiet place to write.

These working terms describe the free, device-only Efef Writer. They are written for founder review and have not yet been approved by legal counsel.

Important legal status

This page is a product draft, not final legal terms. The legal operator name and address, eligibility and age rules, governing law, consumer-law wording, warranty and liability terms, dispute process and final service-contact details are still open. Efef must not present this draft as counsel-approved or rely on it as the complete agreement for a broad public launch.

1. The service available now

Efef currently provides a free fiction-writing experience. Manuscripts are saved in browser storage on the device where you write. Cloud manuscript sync, AI story understanding, paid upgrades and payment Checkout are not active in this launch.

2. Your account

You are responsible for using an email address you control and for keeping access to that mailbox secure. Do not share a sign-in link. Efef may send account and essential service messages, but it should not place manuscript text in those messages.

3. Your work and the rights you keep

  • You retain ownership of the stories, notes and worlds you create.
  • Efef does not sell or license your manuscript to other people or companies.
  • Efef does not use your manuscript to train Efef or third-party models.
  • You may export and delete the local copy available in the Writer.

Because this launch does not upload manuscripts, Efef does not need a licence to host or process that manuscript in the cloud. Any future connected feature must introduce its narrow service licence and consent separately before content leaves the device.

4. Your responsibility for device-only work

Signing in is not the same as backing up a manuscript. Clearing browser data, losing a device or using a different browser can make local work unavailable. Keep regular exports of work you cannot afford to lose. Efef should make this limitation visible in the product and must not describe local storage as cloud recovery.

5. Fair and lawful use

You agree not to use Efef to:

  • break the law or knowingly violate another person’s rights;
  • attack, probe, disrupt or bypass the security of the service;
  • impersonate another person or misuse their email address;
  • automate access in a way that harms the service or other writers.

This acceptable-use boundary concerns service abuse. It does not give Efef a right to inspect a device-only manuscript or judge a lawful fictional work.

6. Availability and changes

Efef is an early product and may change, pause or remove features. When a change could affect access to local work, the product should give reasonable notice and preserve a useful export path wherever technically possible. Efef may suspend an account used to attack the service, subject to the final consumer-law and appeal wording.

7. Paid and connected features

Plus, Pro, cloud sync and Connected Understanding are product plans, not active services under this draft. Before Efef accepts payment or sends story content to a processor, it must publish the applicable price, taxes, billing and cancellation terms, privacy details, processor disclosure and any additional consent.

8. Questions

Read the Privacy & author rights disclosure for the current data boundary. Questions about these draft terms can be sent to hello@efef.io. Please do not include private manuscript text in email.
